Man City win the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2021. Beating Arsenal in the final. I’m here to breakdown what went wrong for Arsenal last night, are Man City back? Is Nico O’Reilly one of if not the best Left back in the world currently? Is this Carabao Cup almost like Klopp’s final Carabao Cup?
Arsenal looked so poor last night and I can’t help but think this is Arteta’s fault. We have seen first hand how bad Kepa is in a Carabao cup final. This became clear as for the first goal he let the ball slip and put it in the path of O’Reilly giving him an easy goal. The second goal was a defensive error and there was not alot Kepa could do. Paul Merson put it perfectly “a monumental error”
I also can’t help but think. If Arsenal win this league Arteta deserves his flowers. We all moan about how Arsenal play boring football; I don’t what you expect when his attack is mediocre at best. Arsenal fans say about Saka "Give him time he's only young" or they call him starboy.
He's 25! He's more of a starman now. Also he was Arsenal's 2nd worst player yesterday.
With that cup win you can't help but wonder are Man City? They are 2nd in the league, if they win there game in hand and beat Arsenal they all of a sudden it's a 3 point gap, just beat Real Madrid in the Champions League to get to the Quarter finals, Playing in the FA Cup Quarter final and just won the Carabao Cup. Not mention the stars they have.
Nico O'Reilly dropped the best Ib performance I've seen all season. The guy has been playing out of his skin for weeks now. I can't help but think he has discussions to top 5 left backs in the world maybe even top 3. He scored 2 goals yesterday and he can literally defend and attack. This makes you think; does he have his seat secured on the flight to America in June?
Yesterday’s game almost felt bittersweet. Not because of the game itself but story behind. All season it’s been questioned whether Pep will stay at not next season but felt like the pure passion and emotion he put into that really felt like he wanted to give City fans a moment they will remember forever in his last ever trophy he brought. I bit like us Liverpool fans hold the 2024 final close as that was Klopp’s last ever trophy. So that’s why I think Pep will leave at the end of the season. I think it’s time for a quote from the man who had seen the entirety of Pep’s reign, my dad “
Overall, I think this cup final will have a massive impact in terms of performance and morale for the rest of the season. We saw Liverpool almost fully collapse after losing the Carabao Cup final and got lucky that Arsenal and City were both out of form. This competition is always the most impactful because if you win it then that a massive morale boost for your entire team but if you lose it then you could see your entire season fold in on itself.
